Combat Arms are military service branches that fight primarily on land. They encompass personnel, vehicles, and weapons, such as infantry, armor and artillery. Their primary mission is to engage enemy combatants, seize or defend territory, and protect a nation's security.

Combat Support are military service branches that provide essential operational assistance to frontline troops. These roles include combat engineering, intelligence, communications, military police, and artillery. They ensure frontline units have the specialized assets and fire support needed to execute their missions.

Combat Service Support are military service branches are the logistical and administrative backbone of military operations. Its primary mission is to manage supply chains and provide the materiel, transportation, health care, and personnel services required to keep combat units fighting.

As an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist, you’ll be the Army’s preeminent tactical and technical explosives expert. You’ll have the advanced training and critical skills needed to disable and defeat explosive devices and weapons of mass destruction.

Reserve Officers’ Training Corps
The Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) prepares college students to become future officers. As a cadet, participation takes just a few hours per week, so you'll maintain a normal collegiate schedule, in which ROTC is an elective. In class, you'll study leadership and have the opportunity to learn skills like rappelling, marksmanship, and orienteering.

A direct commission appoints civilians and service members with professional experience directly to an Officer rank.
