How do I participate?
To participate in the New Jersey Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition, you must be selected by your unit. This can happen either by expressing your interest to your unit, via your units Readiness NCO, showcasing your capabilities in an evaluation, or by demonstrating the exceptional skills required for the competition throughout your time in the National Guard and being chosen as a result.
The Challenge
The Best Warrior competition can vary every year but it generally results in the following events- The AFT, a secret event, Marksmanship qualification with a rifle and a pistol, Land navigation (day and night), a stress shoot event, a formal board appearance and lastly a 12-mile ruck march.
The Prize
There can be two winners of the Best Warrior Competition: one Non-Commissioned Officer and one Junior Enlisted Soldier. The winners will receive awards for their achievements, which may include military schools (eg- Airborne and Air assault) medals, and other honors. From there, they will advance to the Regional Competition to compete against the best warriors from other states.
